The way the booking was messed up in the first place and then not be told breakfast finished at 9.30am on a Sunday or when checking out was!!! Also the room carpet was filthy and a wet dirty face cloth was left in the bathroom. It felt more like a guest house then a hotel and the price to stay was more then a four star hotel in a city. The staff made me feel very uncomfortable and I wouldnt recommend this place to any one not even for one night! Also giving a break down of the price ie £62.50 for your room and £20 for a breakfast we never even had was an insult!!!!
Hotel is just outside Aberfeldy within walking distance of Castle Menzies, so location is very good. We were there with several other groups of relatives to attend a wedding at the castle. It's also quiet, there is plenty of parking at the front.
The hotel is under new management and there has been some refurbishment of rooms. However, this change meant our original booking, for two double rooms and a single (with discount for the single) was not adhered to. We had two twin rooms and a double. Our double was cramped, with barely enough room to get round the bed, although the en-suite was a good size. We think this was originally a single. Room for improvement on catering - I would expect fresh tea and coffee to be served to each table at breakfast - this was provided in flasks on the table with cereals. Toast not made fresh either.
Being able to leave was the best part of my stay.
Being able to leave was the best part of my stay. Bed had springs poking through the mattress and the most uncomfortable pillows in the world. My room had an adjoining door to the next room, which even when closed you could hear every single word from next door. Man on reception said no to everything as his first response to any request. Normal room rate was £65 and I was charged £110 because it was the busy Etape Caledonia weekend. I would have been disappointed if I'd got the room for free and this is simply robbery.
We were upgraded free of charge to a more spacious room. Evening meal was good and personel friendly.
Decor a little tired.
Charming old (but well presented) building; attentive and friendly staff; nice big room
The mattress is too soft
Good location for facilities around Aberfeldy. Good WiFi access. Parking was easy. Food at dinner was O.K.
Breakfast was poor and the noise from the bar below us went on until 03.00.
Attentative staff relaxed attmoshered lovely food
The room size if we had brought the dog it would have been scruntchey to say the least. Staff seemed unsure apart from one person who seemed to control all that was happening. All in all a nice place, but more staff training would not come amiss.
We liked the hotel location, which was close to our meeting location. Our room was big and nice, however, the service was poor and not up to par.
Inconsistent and poor service: We stayed five days and bathroom amenities were not replaced until we asked on last day, which resulted in all opened bottles in bath tub were removed as well as a big bar of personal soap we brought. Breakfast was served in breakfast room. Staff came to provide coffee, tea, and took order for breakfast. Staff then disappeared and did not check if more coffee, tea or anything else was needed - we had to go into kitchen to ask for it. Also, we stayed five days and cereals in big bowls were depleted and not refilled until we asked - although bowls were nearly empty the last two days. Bowl of prunes was also only brought out on first day. Very inconsistent service for the price paid.
The room we were given was very nice, following my wife requesting a room on the 1st floor, since she had recently had a leg operation. There was a complimentary drink given, whilst the rooms were organised - suspect they were only expecting one couple to arrive? Feel the room we were going to be given up on the 3rd floor might have been a whole lot different? The was no lift.
Did not realise that the breakfast was seperate from the room rate, as booked through "Booked.net", or probably would not have bothered with it, certainly would have cancelled it after the first morning. Breakfast published as great scottish breakfast, but did not live up to this, and the few items looked very lost on the huge plates they served it on. If you did not have an item, there was no offer to double-up on any other item, so you could be left with a piece of bacon and a quarter tomato sitting in the middle of this plate. At every sitting we had to play the game of finding a condiment container and/or sugar bowl that had something in it ! missing cutlery etc. The owner of this hotel needs to examine the entire breakfast service to the hotel guests. These views represent both couples under this booking.
The staff were very friendly, and in particular the food was excellent.
